Kev d – feel it – Benefactor by Kev D – Filth Infatuated

DL) Describe the music you make. K) I’ve predominantely been making techno which is my first love, experimenting with quite a range of speeds from 124 up to 140 bpm. I’m also experimenting with some drum and bass (whilst trying to add some techno elements!). Later this year I will be getting into the studio with Subcult label owner Aka Carl who is an outstanding producer, dj and sound engineer, I’m very excited about teaming up with him.

DL) How long have you been making beats for? K) I started producing since beginning my course with digitallabz in May2008, after every lesson I was eagerly at the controls back home trying to grasp what I had learnt that day.

DL) How have digitallabz helped you to make music? K) Basically in short without Digitallabz I wouldn’t be making music! Having lessons to show you how to use the equipment correctly is the perfect way to get started with making music.

The whole course was tailored around the style of music I love so that really helped me, splitting the course up into sessions worked brillantly. Between lessons I was able to come home and experiment with the project we were working on, and really try to get to grips with what I had learnt.

This helped me to start using these techniques, and create my own sounds in preperation for the next lesson where I was given pointers and help with what I had created.

The student workbook Digitallabz provided gave me a good introduction to production, I try as much as I can to build on this by reading lots more online and in books.

DL) What success have you had?
K) I’ve got 3 tracks available to buy now and 2 more due for release later this year.
All of them are in digital format.

My first release was on a new Manchester based Techno label called Digital Distort.

The four other releases are with Techno artillery records, They are quite a large European label in the techno scene with many excellent producers on their label.
